🎂 Turning 44
Today I turn 44.
I'm writing this early, cup in hand, before the day fills up and becomes something else.
And I keep coming back to the woman who sat here a year ago, turning 43, quietly unsure of a few things.
She was fine. She just didn't yet know what this year would teach her.
So if you're reading this on my actual birthday – thank you. That means something real to me.
Turning 44: what I know now that I didn't then
Last year I wrote down a handful of things I was learning. This year, they've only gotten truer.
Let me hand you a few.
Nothing is permanent. Not goals, not roles, not even how you feel today. Life is change – and that's the mercy in it, not the threat.
Over-analyzing won't get you anywhere. Stop reading so much into people and situations. Let things unfold. Patience is a practice, not a personality.
Your energy and your time are your most valuable currencies. Spend them on the people and places that fill you. Not the ones that drain you.
Self-care is lovely – but it's surface. The real shift happens with self-love. Not the bubble-bath kind. The kind that changes how you speak to yourself at 2am.
And this one I keep coming back to most:
Growing older isn't really about age.
It's about discovering more of who you actually are.
A journey back to your own soul.
You are not stuck as one version of yourself.
Keep evolving. Keep finding the highest version of you.
And on the hard days – and there are hard days – it's the tiny glimmers that carry you. The small, fleeting, happy moments. Treasure those.
You always have a choice.
Your 5-minute birthday reset
Try this sometime this week. Or right now, if you're somewhere quiet.
Sit down. Feet on the floor. Eyes closed if that feels okay.
Breathe in for 4. Hold for 2. Exhale for 6.
Then ask yourself, gently:
"Who have I become this year that I couldn't see coming?"
No judging. Just meeting her.
Hand on heart:
"I am still becoming. And I like who I'm becoming."
A thought to carry with you
"I am not getting older. I am getting closer to myself."
So here's my honest question:
Where are you running on fumes right now?
If you've been waiting for a reason to finally put yourself back on the list – let this be it. Let my birthday be the reason.
Just reply "birthday" and I'll send you everything. The details, the spots, all of it. I'd love to walk you through it myself.
