The Countdown 🎂
There's a particular kind of quiet that shows up right before a birthday.
Not loud. Not celebratory yet.
Just... reflective.
I've been sitting in that space this week.
And if you're reading this, pour yourself something cold, it's August after all, and sit with me for a minute.
This birthday feels different.
A year ago, I thought the answer to almost everything was doing more.
More creating. More building. More achieving. More proving.
And somewhere between running a business, holding space for clients, being a mother, showing up for family, and trying to keep all the plates spinning, I realized something uncomfortable:
I had become very good at caring for everyone except the version of me who was quietly exhausted.
Not burned out.
Just disconnected from myself.
And that's probably been my biggest lesson this year.
The things we need most are usually the very things we're postponing until we've "earned" them.
Rest. Joy. Stillness. Support. A slow afternoon. A deep breath.
We've convinced ourselves these things belong at the finish line.
But the finish line keeps moving.
Especially if you're someone who leads, holds, provides, nurtures, builds, or carries a lot.
This year I'm choosing differently.
I'm not slowing down because I've earned it.
I'm slowing down because I'm human.
And maybe you need that reminder too.
Three things I'm taking into this next year
1. Rest is a relationship, not a reward.
If I only rest when everything is done, I'll never rest.
The work will always find me. The laundry will always be there. The inbox will always refill itself.
I've learned that rest isn't something I earn after life.
It's part of life.
2. Growth doesn't always look productive.
For a long time, I thought growth looked like action.
Now I know sometimes growth looks like:
• saying no
• changing your mind
• taking longer than planned
• asking for help
• choosing peace over proving yourself
Some of the biggest shifts in my life this year happened when nobody could see them.
3. The people who love you don't need you to be impressive.
They need you to be present.
This one hit me deeply.
The moments I've treasured most this year weren't the milestones.
They were the conversations. The laughter. The ordinary Tuesday evenings. The moments I wasn't achieving anything at all.
Your 5-Minute Countdown Ritual
Before your next meeting, client call, school pickup, or endless to-do list, grab a piece of paper.
Draw two columns.
What I carried this year
In this column, write:
- challenges
- responsibilities
- disappointments
- hard lessons
- things that stretched you
What carried me this year
In this column, write:
- people who supported you
- moments that made you laugh
- habits that grounded you
- unexpected blessings
- strengths you discovered in yourself
When you're done, pause and ask:
Am I giving equal attention to what supported me as I do to what exhausted me?
Most of us remember every hard thing.
We forget the things that kept us standing.
A thought I'm carrying into this next year
"I don't need to wait for the finish line to feel worthy, rested, or whole."
If that resonates, save it somewhere you'll see it on the hard days.
My birthday gift to you 🎁
Every birthday I ask myself one question:
Who am I becoming?
Not what am I achieving.
Not what am I earning.
Who am I becoming?
That's the intention behind my free Insight Timer meditation:
Meditation to Embody Your Millionaire Self
And before your entrepreneur brain jumps to money...
This meditation isn't really about financial success.
It's about becoming the version of yourself that trusts herself.
The version that stops shrinking.
The version that acts from alignment instead of fear.
If you need that reminder this month, it's my gift to you.

A birthday favour?
Instead of gifts this year, I'd love stories.
Hit reply and finish this sentence:
"This year, I'm learning that __________."
Just one sentence.
I'll read every response.
And if enough of us are craving more real-life connection, I'm considering hosting a free Evening of Presence this fall near Oakville, a chance to step away from the noise and simply gather, reflect, and reconnect.
Your reply will help me know whether it's something worth creating.
Before I go...
Thank you for being part of this chapter of my life.
Whether we've worked together, crossed paths briefly, sat together in a healing session, or you've simply been reading quietly from afar, I'm grateful you're here.
As another birthday approaches, I'm feeling less interested in becoming more, and more interested in becoming fully myself.
Maybe that's the real gift of getting older.
Here's to aging softer, not harder.
With love,
Preeti ❤️
